Day camps in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood offering creative writing, playwriting, and storytelling instruction for grades 5-10 during summer weeks, with daily writing workshops, neighborhood walks, and guest author visits.
The Write Room offers multiple one-week summer day camps for youth in grades 5-10. Creative Writing Camp (grades 5-8 and 6-10 sessions) focuses on writing fundamentals including character development, setting, and point of view, exploring fiction, memoir, and poetry with daily writing prompts, workshops, and book discussions. Playwriting Camp (grades 5-8) guides students in writing an original story and adapting it into a play, with improv exercises, acting workshops, and an informal performance on the final day. All camps include neighborhood walks, reading time, and a Q&A session with a published author. Camps are limited to 14 students and run 9am-3pm daily.
