A non-competitive summer day camp on 200 acres in Rockland County where children ages 4–16 spend their days outdoors hiking, swimming, climbing, canoeing, and creating art, with an emphasis on nature connection and skill-building over six weeks.
The Nature Place is a nature-oriented summer day camp established in 1985, located on 200 acres in Chestnut Ridge, Rockland County, New York. Campers ages 4–16 choose four, five, or six weeks of programming from July 6 to August 13, 2027. The camp is built on non-competitive principles where campers develop real outdoor skills—hiking wooded trails, swimming daily in a natural pond-like setting, climbing, canoeing, and practicing archery—alongside creative pursuits like woodworking, music, drama, gardening, and African drumming and dance. Groups are intentionally small, averaging 16 campers with a 3-to-1 counselor ratio, and the daily schedule includes six 45-minute activity periods with unhurried transitions. A full-time registered nurse is on-site throughout each day.
