Sweetbriar Nature Center offers themed summer day camps for children ages 6–15, combining nature exploration, outdoor adventures, and environmental education on its 54-acre preserve on Long Island, with options ranging from waterside adventures and animal studies to hiking and kayaking trips.
Summer Discovery Weeks run from June through August with different themed programs each week. Children ages 6–11 can join Amazing Animals (June 29–July 3 or August 17–21) to learn about the animal kingdom and environmental stewardship, Animal Detectives (July 13–17) to investigate animal adaptations, or Adventures on the Waterside (July 6–10 or August 3–7) to explore the Nissequogue River, go stream trekking, and learn about riverside ecosystems. Older teens ages 12–15 can participate in Nature Explorers (July 27–31 or August 10–14) for immersive outdoor adventures including kayaking, hiking, and an overnight campout with campfire and night hike. Most programs run 9am–3pm weekdays, with optional aftercare available. Younger children ages 3–5 can join Nature Sprouts summer sessions (July and August) for play-based learning, sensory exploration, animal encounters, and nature activities. All programs emphasize hands-on learning through exploration, nature walks, and interaction with the center's animal ambassadors on its varied woodland, wetland, garden, and field habitats.
