A two-week residential art camp for teens at The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut where students study observational drawing from classical casts and live models, oil painting landscape and portrait techniques, and participate in plein air painting sessions with professional artist instructors who are Grand Central Atelier alumni.
The Summer Classical Art Intensive for Teens runs June 21–July 2, 2027 at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Open to ages 14–18, the program combines morning studio sessions in cast drawing, afternoon progression from skull to portrait drawing, and evening en plein air landscape painting. Students learn classical drawing methodology through structured classes with daily individual critiques, develop oil painting fundamentals, and have opportunities to paint alongside Hudson River Fellowship artists. The program includes weekend activities such as swimming and painting at the campus lake, stargazing at the Hotchkiss observatory, evening fireside chats, and optional portfolio reviews. Small class sizes ensure personalized instruction from professional faculty. Tuition of $4,850 includes a single dorm room and meal plan, with need-based scholarships available.
