A Jewish day camp in Wheeling, IL serving children from pre-K through grade 8, running eight-week summer sessions with age-tailored programming that includes swimming, sports, creative arts, outdoor adventures and Jewish cultural activities.
Ramah Day Camp offers a joyfully Jewish summer experience for children entering pre-K through eighth grade. The camp is nestled in a wooded section of Wheeling and runs eight-week sessions from mid-June through mid-August, with the option of attending either the first or second four-week session. Campers are organized by grade into divisions (eidah) and small groups (kvutzot) led by college-age counselors and adult staff. The daily program includes swimming in two heated pools with Red Cross instruction, sports including tennis, basketball, flag football, soccer, archery and more, creative arts such as drama, dance, painting and pottery, outdoor adventures with a low ropes course and nature activities, and Hebrew language and Israeli culture integrated throughout. All-camp events celebrate Jewish traditions including Purim in July, Shabbat preparation, and weekly Israeli dancing. The camp accepts campers of all backgrounds and skill levels, with younger children sampling a variety of activities and older campers choosing from electives. A Hebrew immersion specialty program called Sha'ar is available for grades 5-8, and ninth and tenth graders can apply as counselors-in-training.
