A self-directed day camp for children ages 4-18 that operates when Philadelphia public schools close. Kids choose their activities each day—from building forts and playing games to making music and reading—with facilitators supporting their learning in a community-based environment.
Philly ALC School runs day-off camps when Philadelphia public schools are closed. Children ages 4-18 from any school can attend and experience self-directed learning alongside Philly ALC's regular students. Camp days follow a school-day rhythm with drop-off at 8:30 AM and pickup at 4:00 PM. Kids mix free play with optional activities including building, board games, drawing, music, reading, and outdoor time. Younger children and teens learn together, and a quiet period provides calm space for those who need it. All participants follow community agreements focused on conflict resolution and consent. Facilitators support the group throughout the day.
