PAL operates free summer day camps across New York City's five boroughs for children ages 5-13, offering seven weeks of academic enrichment, arts learning, sports fundamentals, field trips and special events to support positive youth development during summer months.
PAL's Summer Day Camps serve children ages 5-13 living in communities facing high rates of poverty and crime, providing free programming from 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Over seven weeks, campers participate in a rotating schedule of academic enrichment, arts learning, and physical fitness activities including team-based athletic tournaments and sports fundamentals instruction. The camps include frequent field trips and special events that introduce campers to youth from other communities and cultural resources throughout the city. The summer begins with an annual Carnival and concludes with Culture Day, a project-based learning experience where children present what they learned about the summer's citywide educational theme. Participants have shown increased physical activity, reduced summer learning loss, and improved communication skills and self-esteem.
