A day camp in Brooklyn where youth ages 11–17 spend full days sailing classic keelboats on New York Harbor, learning seamanship and navigation while exploring iconic waterways like the Hudson River, East River, and Jamaica Bay under instruction from professional maritime educators.
The New York Sailor's Camp is a five-day, seven-hour day camp based at One°15 Brooklyn Marina on Pier 5 in Brooklyn Heights. Campers ages 11–17 sail classic sailboats (Vineyard Vixen 29', Cluders 36', Intrepid 9 Meter) across New York Harbor's Upper Bay, with daily schedules including morning and afternoon sailing sessions, instruction in seamanship fundamentals, and maritime history lessons from captains. No prior sailing experience is required. Small groups of up to six campers per boat ensure hands-on learning. The camp covers safety at sea, knots and ropes, navigation, and teamwork. Rain day activities include field trips to maritime museums. Campers receive Level 1 Teen Sailing Certification from the American Sailing Association upon completion.
