A five-day jazz camp for ages 12–16 held in Manhattan where students develop improvisation, theory, and ear training skills under the mentorship of professional NYC jazz musicians, culminating in a final performance showcase.
The New York Jazz Workshop's Teen Summer Jazz Camp runs Monday through Friday from 11am to 4pm (with an optional private lesson hour from 4–5pm). Students aged 12–16 with at least 2–3 years of instrumental experience learn jazz repertoire, harmonic and melodic theory, ear training, transcription, and ensemble playing. Each week features two different faculty members teaching different topics, so every week offers a new experience. The curriculum emphasizes how to apply jazz concepts to all musical styles. Students participate in ensemble settings and a final showcase performance. The camp is led by seasoned educators with extensive experience teaching music to young people. Registration includes a camp T-shirt.
