A summer debate and public speaking camp for children ages 4-10 in Acton, offering programs in debate fundamentals, public forum debate, young speakers, public speaking, and accelerated debate. Students learn research, writing, presentation skills, and critical thinking through instruction, practice, and end-of-session tournaments.
Lumos Debate offers multiple summer programs in Acton for rising grades 4-10. Young Speakers is a one-week program for rising 4th-6th graders who research and deliver a TedTalk-style presentation on a self-chosen topic, focusing on building confidence in public speaking. Debate Fundamentals is a one-week program for rising 5th-9th graders that teaches cross-examination, rebuttals, research, and evidence use, culminating in a debate tournament. Public Speaking is a one-week program for rising 7th-10th graders who write and deliver persuasive speeches. Public Forum Debate I is a two-week program for rising 7th-10th graders learning the most popular high school debate format, ending with a two-day tournament. Public Forum Debate II is an advanced two-week program for students who already know debate basics. Accel Debate is a one-week intensive program for experienced debaters. All programs emphasize one-on-one coaching, skill development, and creating a fun, supportive environment. The summer schedule is described as "Coming Soon" on the website.
