LION Charter School's summer program for rising 1st through 9th graders combines academic skill development in English and math with enrichment activities including arts, STEM, movement, and field trips across New York City.
LION's Summer Boost program, offered since 2007, blends rigorous academics with hands-on enrichment. Students strengthen foundational literacy and math skills using the RISE curriculum from the Lavinia Group, with instruction tailored to each grade level. The program features systematic phonics and close reading for younger students, problem-solving and real-world applications for older students, and enrichment activities including arts and crafts, STEM-based exploration, fitness and movement, and collaborative projects. Field trips extend learning beyond the classroom, allowing students to explore cultural, recreational, and educational spaces throughout the city. The summer concludes with community celebrations bringing students, families, and staff together.
