A 2-week summer program for New York City high school students that introduces them to professional Off-Broadway theater through hands-on projects, staff mentorship, and behind-the-scenes exposure across production, development, marketing, and audience engagement.
Playwrights Horizons offers a summer opportunity for high school students passionate about theater. The program runs two 2-week sessions in June and July, providing an introduction to the inner workings of a professional Off-Broadway theater. Participants work as a cohort while exploring individual focus areas, attending daily lunch-and-learns with staff and artists, shadowing rehearsals and production activities, and touring theater facilities including the scene shop in Queens. Students will also attend at least one Off-Broadway show, learn about script coverage and play development, and participate in weekly group check-ins leading to a final presentation.
