A week-long day camp where children ages 6–13 star in a different musical production each week, with equal roles for every participant and optional singing parts, culminating in a Friday performance.
Essex Youth Theater's Summer Theater Day Camp runs five one-week sessions throughout July and August at Studio Players in Upper Montclair. Each week features a custom musical production where every child receives an equal, meaningful role. The camp emphasizes that no child is left out; songs are optional, and students can choose not to sing. Weekly shows include Charlotte's Web, Rock On and Peace Out, Ice Cream Social, Recess and the Nicest Kids in Town, The Chronicles of Narnia, and High School (Sort-of) Musical. Camp runs daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a performance for families at 1 p.m. on Friday. The organization has been operating for over 30 years and focuses on building self-esteem, dramatic skills, and creative expression through theater games, improvisation, and small class sizes with individual attention.
