A summer day camp for K-5 students in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where children explore art through drawing, painting, sculpture and collage around weekly themes, with daily sketchbook work, park time, neighbourhood trips, and Friday exhibitions for families.
ESS Community Projects runs week-long Summer Art Workshops for young artists in grades K-2 and 3-5. Each week centres on a big idea explored through multiple art media and techniques, with a mix of collaborative activities, skill-building projects, and free art time. Classes are small—limited to 10 students with a high teacher-to-student ratio of at least one adult per six students. A typical day includes arrival and icebreaker, theme introduction with art discussion and experimentation, snack break, extended art-making time, lunch and recess in a nearby park, choice-time art exploration, and daily reflection. On Fridays, young artists stage an exhibition to share their finished work with family and friends. Throughout the week, artists maintain daily sketchbooks and take neighbourhood trips for inspiration. The 2023 session is hosted at Greenpoint Reformed Church. Reduced tuition and additional financial aid by application are available to all families.
