Two-week and one-week summer intensives for middle school students in grades 5-10, offering pre-professional training in dance, animation, film and photography, songwriting, violin, and creative writing from Academy faculty and visiting professional artists. Also runs: Chicago Academy for the Arts Winter and Spring Break Camps.
Chicago Academy for the Arts offers intensive summer camps in June for students heading into grades 6-10. Session 1 (June 8-18) includes two-week programs in Dance (ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, improvisation, partnering), 2D Animation (storyboarding, character design, classic animation techniques with industry software), and Film & Photography (DSLR camera, composition, lighting, storytelling, script writing, audio, editing). Session 2 (June 22-26) offers one-week intensives in Choreography with Robyn Mineko Williams from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (sensation-based movement, improvisation, original collaborative work), Creative Writing: Reflections in Nature (vignettes, poetry, stories with field trips to Botanic Gardens and Lincoln Park Zoo), Songwriting for Creative Musicians (collaborative original music creation and recording in professional studio), and Violin Workshop: Classical Foundations, Jazz Improvisations (technique, chamber music, jazz vocabulary). All programs run weekdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
