A week-long jazz immersion camp for musicians ages 12–18 that covers improvisation, theory, history, and small group performance, with instruction from Chicago jazz musicians and daily combo rehearsals culminating in a final concert.
The Institute for Jazz Studies at Bellas Artes School of Music runs its ninth annual summer jazz camp, a five-day immersion program for students ages 12–18. The camp covers jazz history, theory, improvisation, and instrumental technique through masterclasses, combo rehearsals, and group study. Students work in small ensembles matched to their level, with faculty from the Chicago jazz scene leading instruction. The week includes a student jam session and final concert. Welcoming students on drums, piano, guitar, bass, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, vibraphone, violin and more.
