Youth groups, scouts, families and school groups spend a night aboard the historic Battleship New Jersey in Camden, sleeping in Navy bunks, eating in the crew's mess, touring gun turrets and learning about naval history through hands-on programs led by museum educators.
The Battleship New Jersey's overnight encampment program welcomes scouts, school groups, youth organizations and families to spend a memorable night aboard the Iowa-class battleship, nearly three football fields long and eleven stories high. After a chow-line dinner, groups receive a guided tour of the ship's spaces including the Captain's and Admiral's cabins, the Officer's Wardroom, and the massive 16-inch gun turrets. Participants sleep in the same bunks used by sailors and eat breakfast and dinner from the crew's mess. The following day includes additional hands-on educational programs with museum educators exploring the science and history behind the battleship. Groups learn about the ship's roles in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf, and how it earned its status as the most decorated battleship in U.S. naval history.
