A six-week summer dance camp where young people ages 11–14 learn modern, ballet, jazz, and West African dance while developing self-confidence and leadership skills through creative classes and personal development workshops.
AileyCamp Newark runs for six weeks in summer, offering daily dance technique classes in Horton-based modern, ballet, jazz, and West African or tap. Beyond dance, campers take personal development classes covering goal setting, nutrition, conflict resolution, and career development. Creative communication classes include visual arts-based workshops and creative writing. The camp helps youth develop self-confidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and trust, and participants enjoy athletic and social activities alongside their creative work. The program is administered in collaboration with the Newark Board of Education and New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and eligible young people can participate for little to no cost.
