A 5-day sleepaway camp held each August that brings together LGBTQ+ youth leaders from across Illinois who are rising 8th through 12th graders. Participants learn from one another, strengthen their anti-oppressive frameworks, and develop skills for creating inclusive spaces.
Action Camp, hosted by Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook in partnership with The Alliance (a program of Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago), is designed for youth leaders from GSAs and youth groups across the state. The camp is described as a space where young people see their identities reflected, sharpen their critical thinking, and practice what it means to create environments where all identities are safe, supported, affirmed and celebrated. The camp runs for five days in August and is staffed by volunteer adult counselors in various roles.
